Dubai Metro Blue Line: 14 New Stations Set to Transform the City by 2029

Dubai is again proving that, when it comes to innovation, whether in the sky or the skyline, it just gets better. The Roads and Transport Authority has officially revealed an exciting update about the newest Dubai Metro Blue Line. It is a groundbreaking addition that is set to change the way people commute in the city and stay connected.

A Major Leap Toward Dubai’s 2040 Vision

Once complete, the Dubai Metro Blue Line is anticipated to serve up to 1 million residents and visitors, helping alleviate transport challenges as the city's population rises. The project supports the city's strategy to provide more efficient and sustainable transport solutions for Dubai's dynamic population and growing business activity.

Featuring around 14 new stations, it is set to connect those neighbourhoods that currently rely on private modes of transport. The blue line will become a link to the city’s bustling residential and commercial hubs. With that, it will also directly connect to Dubai International Airport (DXB)

In 2029, which is going to be the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro, the Dubai Metro Blue Line is expected to reduce overall traffic congestion by up to 20%. It is a great and much-needed upgrade to ease the commuting experience of thousands of travelers and residents.

Two Routes Connecting

The new Dubai Blue Line Metro is expected to stretch across 30 kilometers, divided into two interconnected routes.

  • Main Route: 21 km long
  • Secondary Route: 9 km long

The routes will blend with the existing Green and Red Line Metro, allowing passengers to travel between key areas of the city. DXB Airport will be accessible in just 20 minutes, and RTA has confirmed the project to be 10% completed already. By 2025, the plan will reach its 30% completion, which shows rapid progress.

The 14 Key Stations on Dubai’s Blue Line

Here is a quick look at the Dubai Metro Blue Line map that will connect major areas with direct metro connectivity:

Al Jaddaf

This will mark the starting point of the longer metro route, facilitating a seamless commute from the Blue Line connecting to the Green Line. The neighbourhood is known for its picturesque views, waterfront promenades, walkways, and quicker access to Dubai Creek. This station will allow passengers from the Dubai Metro Blue Line to connect to the Green Line and enjoy the pretty views on the way. Through this connectivity across the emirates, commuters will experience great comfort, since the population of the city is growing at an exponential rate.

Al Rashidiya

Currently known as the Centerpoint metro station, it will act as an interchange station, linking the Red to the Dubai Metro Blue Line. It is also remaining as one of the few metro stations in Dubai to offer free parking facilities.

Dubai Creek Harbour (Emaar Properties Station)

This luxurious community is going to become an architectural marvel, since RTA has plans to make it the world’s tallest metro station. Dubai Creek Harbour Metro is set to handle up to 160,000 passengers daily. The design will include a 1,300-meter viaduct across the creek, which is an engineering marvel in itself.

Dubai Festival City

It is home to more than 77,000 residents and also hosts one of Dubai’s largest malls. This new metro stop is going to reduce the dependency on water taxis, called abra rides. Commuting across the creek becomes seamless and faster, with access to the rest of the city as well. Indeed, the Dubai Metro Blue Line is going to bring mass transit benefits to several communities in Dubai.

Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO)

Currently, connectivity to Dubai Silicon Oasis is highly through private transportation, or selective buses. This neighbourhood is the cornerstone of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, because it's one of Dubai's most important locations. With the execution of the DSO metro station, travel time from Bur Dubai to Dubai Silicon Oasis will be cut in half. It is set to become a prime spot for tech professionals, students, and innovators from all around the world coming here.

International City

The area is expected to receive 3 new metro stations, including one underground interchange station. This affordable neighbourhood is highly prone to traffic, since it's both a commercial and residential hub, also home to the biggest Dragon Mart. International City is set to become one of Dubai’s connected neighbourhoods with the new Dubai Metro Blue Line. The Blue Metro Line is going to serve over 200,000 residents and visitors.

Academic City

Dubai is attracting a young academic population, with top-notch universities situated in Academic City. Popular ones like Middlesex, Wollongong, and Heriot-Watt are already a few big names in the neighborhood. This stop will be able to accommodate the needs of the academic population flowing into the city. The Academic City Metro Station on the Blue Line will host over 50,000 students by 2029, simplifying the daily commute.

Ras Al Khor

The new metro station is going to enhance the importance of this area. It will provide residents and visitors, especially nature lovers heading to the wildlife sanctuary, to relish seamless connectivity. With a direct public transit link, more commuters will explore the area, watch the flamingoes, and enjoy nature. This will ease the traffic by encouraging commuters to shift from private vehicles to public transportation. The contribution of the Ras Al Khor Dubai Metro Blue Line station is expected to reduce overall traffic by 20%.

Al Warqa

Al Warqa is currently home to 60,000 residents, and the famous Dubai Safari Park draws a lot of tourists to this neighborhood. With the inclusion of the Al Warqa metro station, it will enhance accessibility and support Dubai’s rapidly growing population.

Direct Link to DXB Airport

One of the most exciting features of the Dubai Metro Blue Line is its direct connectivity to Dubai International Airport, connecting various communities in just 20 minutes. It is still unclear whether the Blue Line metro station will connect to Terminal 1 and 3, or will have an entirely new station.

Dubai Metro Blue Line isn’t just about getting from one place to another; it’s about connecting lives, ideas, and opportunities.

As the city continues to evolve toward its 2040 vision, this world-class infrastructure project will stand as a testament to innovation, accessibility, and the unstoppable pace of Dubai’s growth.

Indeed, Blue Line Metro Dubai is going to change the way people commute, connect, and travel across the city.
